My therapy approach

There are many modalities and approaches in contemporary psychotherapy. I wish this introduction helps you to understand a little more about my training, way of thinking and working.

I completed my first family counselling training in Hong Kong in 2009, and then completed a Certificate in Guided Imagery and Health, Clinical Gestalt Relational Psychotherapy Training, supervision trainings, and foundational Emotionally Focussed Therapy training in Australia. In addition to working as a psychotherapist for a few years, I am also trained and have work experience in Ignatian spiritual direction for 17 years. (Please refer to the ‘service page – Ignatian Spiritual Exercises’ section for more information) I am an ecumenical Christian who does not hold antagonistic views towards people who practice from other religious traditions if it is non-violent. I welcome clients to explore all aspects of their lives in therapy. However, since therapy is not primarily aimed at pastoral or religious education purposes, if necessary, we may discuss whether other resources may better serve your spiritual needs.

I have experience in helping clients with self-discovery, stress, depression, anxiety, developmental trauma, abuse, drug and alcohol usage, relationship challenges, LGBT identity challenges, single life challenges, domestic violence, loss and grief, rebuilding motivation and self-esteem.

I believe suffering in life comes from many factors. I personally have experienced the challenge of long-term sickness, migration, sexual assault, workplace bullying, harassment, gang stalking, religious abuse, spiritual abuse, image-based abuse, narcissistic abuse, public humiliation and even murder attempts. These personal experiences have shaped my belief that life can be harsh and cruel, but humans can also find the strength to live when the right support and resources are available.

In my approach to therapy, I hope you will experience a non-judgmental, non-shaming and supportive space to talk about your concerns and hopes. I am here as a companion to help you see more clearly the situation you are facing. I hope to support you in finding the strengths and resources that will help you overcome what challenges you and live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. Even if I cannot solve your struggles, I hope you will find me as a compassionate witness to your pain and challenges, and as a fellow human who genuinely cares about the suffering of others. In a world with many troubles (and evil) beyond our control, every human encounter can be a transitory space to create kindness and goodness that nurture and sustain us.

If you don't clearly know what you want from therapy but are curious about how a genuine conversation can benefit your life, you are welcome. If you are looking for someone to support you in reflecting deeply on your life without judgment, you are very welcome, because intentional reflection is a portal to cultivate depth and wisdom.
